OUR WHY

Preteen Ministry Matters

AGES 10-12

Preteens Matter

The preteen years are an important time in the life of a child as they develop their self-identity. Preteens build that identity around the one thing most present in their lives — whether that is movies, music, sports, friends, community, or you.

OUR GOAL

An Identity in Christ

During the brief two years in preteen ministry, we come alongside parents to help their child develop a self-identity found in Christ alone. We want to see preteens grow, live out, and share their faith with confidence by knowing what they believe and why.

First-Time Guests

We’re glad you’re here! When you arrive, please come to our check-in station at the Kid Quest Desk. Someone will help check your child into our system. First-time guests are asked to complete a registration form so that we have all the information needed to place your child in a Small Group.

JOIN US EVERY WEEK FOR

Sunday Morning

Sunday mornings for kids in grades 5 & 6 include two one-hour sections: Small Groups and Preteen Worship.

Preteens learning about God's love.

8:00 & 9:30AM

Small Groups

Small Groups are the primary place where we engage preteens in Bible study and community. Here, your preteen has an opportunity to be involved in spiritual development with other preteens. We encourage all first-time guests to attend a Preteen Small Group.

9:30 & 11:00AM

Worship

Preteens are invited to Worship in the Preteen Worship Room located in the Kid Quest building. This is where they will experience live worship and age-appropriate Bible study taught by the Preteen Minister.

WEDNESDAY NIGHTS

Midweek Preteens

Preteens having fun and building community.

6:00-6:45PM

Preteen Choir

This choir is where preteens can grow in their faith and understanding of worship as they sing and minister together. Each spring, the choir has a mission tour in the Birmingham area. This is a great opportunity for a “first step” into missions. The choir also leads in worship throughout the school year.

6:45-7:30PM

Fellowship and Discipleship

Large-group fellowship begins at 6:45pm in the preteen worship room. At 7:00, preteens break into small-group discipleship, studying God’s Word and learning what it means to own their faith.

Next Steps for Your Child

  • Jumpstart Preteens

This is the starting point of membership for preteens at Hunter Street. We require all preteens seeking church membership to attend the JumpStart membership class. JumpStart Preteens membership class exists to help preteens understand what it means to be a Christian and to be a part of Hunter Street Baptist Church. Parents are not required to attend.

  • Meet with Jeff

Once you feel that your child has had a genuine salvation experience and there is evidence of faith in their life, the next step after the Jump Start class is to schedule a meeting with Jeff Wilbanks to discuss baptism. This meeting provides a great opportunity for individual conversations about your child’s faith and testimony.

  • Membership

Your child can officially join Hunter Street Baptist Church as a member (with your support and permission, of course) once they have professed their faith in Christ and been baptized. To do so, both you and your child will sign a Commitment Card to officially join the church.

Preteen Activities

  • Trail Life

Trail Life is a Christian adventure, character, and leadership program for young men.

  • Sports

Be part of a team with our seasonal sports: soccer, flag football, basketball, softball and cheer

  • Arts

Hunter Street Arts Academy is a great way for preteens to explore and develop visual and musical talents.
