Prayer Walking
Prayer Walking Is...
Considered intercessory prayer, praying for the needs of others.
(1 Tim. 2:1-2; James 5:16)
A way to serve God and neighbor.
(Eph. 6:18; Matt. 5:44)Seeking for God to move here, bringing heaven down to earth.
(Matt. 6:10)Seeking opportunities to share the hope of Christ in a humble, timely way.
(Col. 4:3; 1 Pet. 3:15)
Why Pray on Location?
You certainly do not have to pray on location. Jesus prayed for people from a distance in John 11, and He sent His disciples into communities to pray and minister in Luke 10. Prayer walking is a way to pray "behind enemy lines" without making a scene.
Prayer Walking: Six Steps
1. Determine Your Group
Decide whether you will go alone or with others.
Groups of 2-3 people often work best.
Pray out loud in a conversational tone as you walk.
2. Observe
Slow down.
Observe buildings and homes.
Pay attention to people.
Allow your observations to inform your prayers.
3. Pray for Your Group
Ask God to give you His heart for the people around you.
Ask Him to help you see others as He sees them.
4. Talk About What You See
(If walking with a group)
Discuss what stands out to you.
Identify possible prayer needs.
Share Scripture that informs prayer.
5. Intercede for This Place
Pray that:
God would draw people to saving faith.
Believers would be light and salt.
The Holy Spirit would move powerfully.
The enemy's influence would be broken.
God's peace and blessing would be present.
6. Debrief
Discuss what God impressed upon you.
Share observations and insights.
Talk about what you hope God will do in this place.
A Chance to Share
If you sense the Holy Spirit leading you to speak with someone, consider saying:
"Hi, we're spending some time praying for people in this area. Is there anything we could pray for you about?"
Remember:
Be calm and kind.
Don't be discouraged by a "no."
Be respectful and thank people for their time.
Final Word
Be expectant for God to work.
Pray in faith and trust the Holy Spirit.
God is building His Church and invites us to participate in His work.
One day Christ will return. May we be found faithful until faith becomes sight.
"Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven."
Matthew 6:10
